“Torture flights”, carrying US detainees overseas to be tortured, are passing through Glasgow Prestwick Airport, Ayrshire.

The CIA-run flights carrying out “extraordinary renditions” of prisoners have sparked anger across Europe.

The Stop the War Coalition is planning to demonstrate against the flights outside the airport.

Graeme Cumming is the chair of Ayrshire Friends of Refugees. He told Socialist Worker, “There was a meeting about a fortnight ago that discussed the flights.

“One Scottish Socialist Party (SSP) member has already set up a blog which talks about the issues.

“We plan to protest at the airport. We hope that campaigning groups including the SSP, Amnesty International and Ayrshire Friends of Refugees will come together to show their anger.

“So far the local newspaper has kept what’s going on very quiet — they don’t want to offend the airport — and the local MPs haven’t done anything.

“The slogan for the airport is ‘Pure dead brilliant’. We’re planning to use the slogan ‘Pure dead’ in our campaign.”
