Some 3,500 workers at Scottish Water are set to strike for 24 hours from Thursday over pay. The workers, members of the Unison and GMB unions, are angry that management has imposed a below-inflation pay deal of 3 percent over 15 months.
The action will involve sewage treatment workers and engineers who normally deal with underground pipe bursts.
GMB organiser Richard Leonard said, “The decision to impose a pay award is high handed and provocative.
“When workers see executive board members of Scottish Water pocketing rises of between 30 and 40 percent over the last two years, little wonder that they believe their campaign is as much about fairness and justice as it is about wages alone.”
