Alistair Darling boasts that unemployment is lower than expected. But disabled and seriously ill people are being forced into work under the government’s new employment and support allowance.

A report from the Citizens Advice Bureau says that those declared “fit to work” under new capability tests include people with the advanced stages of Parkinson’s disease and multiple sclerosis.

The report said the tests were little more than “hurried medicals,” where “vital details were missed and unjustifiable assumptions were made”.
