Members of the NASUWT teaching union at Sinfin community school in Derby took strike action on Thursday of last week over plans to transform the school into an academy.

NASUWT members have further strike action planned for 21 and 23 October – and they could be joined by teachers in the NUT union at the school, which is also balloting over the plans.

NUT branch secretary Ian Jennison said, “Without a doubt, my members will vote to take strike action.

“It’s possible we will use the opportunity to strike with other teachers and we could be joined by members of non-teaching staff and teaching assistants, who are in the Unison union.

“Then we could hold a big rally for everyone and leaflet the area with our objections.”

The NUT ballot ends on Monday of next week.
