The Scottish National Party promised to scrap the bedroom tax if Scotland becomes independent last week.

It could do much more—such as reallocating funds to protect tenants from the tax now. But this adds to the pressure on the government.

Labour should promise to do the same if it is elected in 2015.

Around 40 tenants and campaigners protested outside Tory-run Milton Keynes council, on Wednesday of last week. About a dozen then attended the full council meeting.

A Labour group motion demanded that no one should lose their homes because of the benefits changes.

Tenant Eileen Gracey spoke against evictions. Labour and the Lib Dems voted together and passed the motion.
