The Unite union held its biannual sector conferences last week. Delegates told Socialist Worker there was real mood of excitement after the 30 November strike.
There was debate on how to follow up that strike. Some of the union’s leadership profiled the “selective strike” model pioneered in Southampton. But many delegates saw that the power of 30 November lie in everyone coming out together.
The health and local government sector conferences discussed the government’s health and social care bill.
Unite is now committed to mobilising for a national demonstration to defend the NHS in early 2012.
