Lecturers at Stoke-on-Trent College struck on Thursday of last week against the scrapping of the physics department and dyslexia team at the college, which would result in the loss of six jobs.

Jeff Kent, branch secretary of the lecturers’ UCU union, said, “The college has started to try and get other members of staff to take on responsibility for dyslexia.

“We’re losing experienced people, which means the standard of learning just goes lower and lower.”

The branch has voted to continue industrial action short of a strike.

Members will now no longer collect registers, which will hit the college’s funding.
