The TUC has released official flyers for the mass march on the Tory party conference in October.

They show that the march, called “Manchester for the Alternative”, is clearly being pushed as a successor to the half-million strong 26 March demonstration earlier this year.

Campaigners are going all out to make the demonstration a huge show of anger.

“The March and Rally for an Alternative will show opposition to the coalition government’s disastrous policies and show the support for the alternative,” said North West TUC secretary Alan Manning.

“We need jobs, growth and justice for a sustainable future and this event will send that message loud and clear.”

Speakers at the rally have now been announced.

They include the general secretaries of the Unite, GMB, NUT, PCS, NASUWT, RMT and ATL unions.

All this makes it possible for everyone in every union branch across the country to raise support for the demonstration.

Meanwhile the Right to Work campaign, which initiated the call for the protest, is building support for it across the city.

The campaign’s dog character “the Hound” will be touring Manchester for a month in the run-up to the protest, visiting workplaces and community groups.

Right to Work will also have a presence at freshers’ fairs in the city’s large universities.

Publicity has also been distributed for the march against the Lib Dems in Birmingham later this month.

The Midlands region TUC says it is printing 50,000 leaflets for the demonstration.

Manchester for the Alternative Sunday 2 October, assemble 12 noon, Liverpool Road, off Deansgate, Manchester.
