NASUWT union members at the Sinfin community school in Derby began a three-day strike on Tuesday of this week in their continuing campaign against plans to turn the school into an academy.
Chris Blakey, president of Oxfordshire NUT and a member of the Socialist Teachers Alliance, was elected onto the NUT national executive on Monday of this week with 57 percent of the vote.
The result of the NUT’s ballot for strike action over a below-inflation pay offer was due as Socialist Worker went to press.
Activists must make sure that any vote for strikes is translated into real action to fight Brown’s pay curbs and links up with action by other public sector workers.
