Teachers at two north London schools have overwhelmingly voted to strike to defend union rights.

Workers at Highgate Wood school backed strikes by 97 percent while those at Fortismere school voted unanimously for strikes. An indicative ballot at Park View School saw 41 to one in support of strikes.

The NUT union members in Haringey are in dispute over heads of schools agreeing to pay into the Service Level Agreement (SLA) on union facility time. This funds union facility time and allows reps to represent members.

In the background is the victimisation of Haringey NUT divisional secretary Julie Davies. Some secondary school head teachers threatened to refuse to sign the SLA unless Julie was removed as a union official.

Teachers hope to hold their first strike later this month.
