Three key events for anti-racists

As politicians and the press whip up racism in the wake of the Paris killings, here are three key events for anti-racists in Britain:

Organise against fascism

Fascist organisations such as the British National Party are in retreat in Britain.

But the Nazis are still trying to organise to capitalise on anti-migrant racism and Islamophobia.

Unite Against Fascism will hold its annual conference on Saturday 21 February in central London.

Speakers include Diane Abbott MP and Billy Hayes, general secretary of the CWU union.

March against Ukip in Margate

Ukip leader Nigel Farage seized on the Paris killings to whip up racism.

Farage told LBC radio that the killings showed there is a “Fifth column” in Western countries. 

He added that the “real question” following the shootings was “a really rather gross policy of multiculturalism”.

Anti-racists plan to protest at Ukip’s conference in Margate on Friday 28 February.

Demonstrate against racism

Racist populist groups and fascist organisations are making gains across Europe.

Many target migrants and Muslims. 

Anti-racists across Europe will hold protests and rallies on Saturday 21 March, UN anti-racist day. 

Some 7,000 people marched in central London to mark the day last year.

Protests will take place in Cardiff, Glasgow and London.
