The government will stop accepting claims for Disability Living Allowance (DLA) this week.

All new claimants will instead be assessed for the new Personal Independence Payment.

Disability charity Scope has predicted that the change will mean that more than 600,000 disabled people will lose out on the benefit altogether.

Many more will be moved to a lower rate—making it harder to live independently.

Existing DLA claimants will be transferred to the new benefit between 2015 and 2017. They will have to undergo assessments to qualify for the benefit.
