The RMT union has launched a campaign to defend Dayna Nembhard, a tube station assistant who has been sacked after eight years in the job.
Dayna visited a takeaway restaurant where she was racially attacked by a white customer. She defended herself from the unprovoked attack.
The police investigated but did not press charges. Dayna was not at work and not in uniform at the time. Despite this London Underground sacked her for “gross misconduct”.
The RMT executive has vowed to “fight this injustice with all methods at our disposal”. Dayna is an RMT member.
As a first step the union is asking people to sign a petition demanding her reinstatement.
