Take the banks off the bankers

A motion from the Fire Brigades Union calling for public ownership of the banks was passed on Monday. Another motion calling for the abolition of the anti-trade union laws was passed unanimously.


Cheated out of £7,000 a year

Workers are £7,000 worse off after being “cheated” according to the TUC. The Congress published a report that shows average earners are £7,000 a year worse off than in 1980. This is because wages have not kept pace with economic growth.


No trust in privatisation

The Unison union has called for an independent inquiry into the privatisation of public services. A survey of more than 2,000 people showed that 55 percent believed that the quality of public services was worse under privatisation.


Hundreds lobby for a general strike

Some 500 people marched through Brighton on Sunday to lobby the TUC to call a general strike. The protest was organised by the National Shop Stewards Network. It ended with a rally addressed by Mark Serwotka and Bob Crow.
