Meat hygiene inspectors in the Unison union have voted two to one in favour of strike action over cuts to overtime payments and the introduction of a “work anytime” system.

Workers at the Meat Hygiene Service, who inspect meat and poultry plants across the UK, voted in favour of strike action by 66 percent to 34 percent to strike on a 70 percent turnout.

The union was deciding its next steps at a meeting as Socialist Worker went to press, but a strike in the crucial pre-Christmas period would seriously disrupt supplies of meat to supermarkets across the country.
