The lecturers’ UCU union’s further education Committee has backed the decision by delegates at a recent special pay conference to ballot as soon as possible over our rejection of the 0.2 percent pay offer from the Association of Colleges.

NEC members will be contacting and visiting branches to encourage preparation for the ballot which we intend to launch in late November or early December.

The campaign to convince members to resist a pay cut of nearly 5 percent this year starts now.

On top of the insulting pay offer, college lecturers are incensed by the Hutton report’s recommendations last week.

The issues of pay, pensions and jobs are linked and we have to seize every opportunity to build resistance.
