Around 60 activists attended an organising conference of the UCU Left last Saturday. It came at a critical time for the union’s disputes over the TPS and USS pensions schemes.

Speakers included John McDonnell MP and campaigner Priyamvada Gopal. She argued that while the government may have retreated last week over its higher education white paper, the threat to privatise universities is still there.

Mark Campbell, candidate for UCU general secretary, and vice president (FE) candidate, Angie McConnell, urged the conference to continue to fight to defend education and the pay, pensions, jobs and conditions of our members.
