Members of the Unite union have launched a new organisation, Unite Fight Back, to help build networks of solidarity at the base of the union.

This follows blacklisted rank and file member Jerry Hicks winning almost 80,000 votes in the recent  general secretary election.

Since the election his supporters have held meetings around Britain to decide on their next steps.

Construction workers from across Teesside came to one in Hartlepool last week.

A meeting in Glasgow included housing workers, a manufacturing senior steward, and workers from the Grangemouth oil refinery.

Around 50 people came to a national meeting in London, in which they decided to launch Unite Fight Back. They also decided to reconvene to set up the organisation in September.
