Anti-fascists are gearing up to protest against the racist English Defence League (EDL).
In Exeter the EDL had planned a national protest for Saturday of this week. A counter demonstration called by Unite Against Fascism (UAF) has gained widespread support. Assemble 10.30am, Belmont Park.
In Wakefield UAF and We are Wakefield have called a counter demonstration against the EDL’s plans to march in the city on 23 November.
Still, fascists are attempting to regroup. The recently-formed New British Union, gathered outside the Greek embassy on Saturday in support to the fascist Golden Dawn party.
In Shotton Colliery, County Durham, some 200 racists protested against plans to turn a former pub into a Muslim educational centre. However, at short notice about 50 anti-fascists gathered to oppose them, including local Labour MP Grahame Morris.
