The Unite union and Grangemouth oil refinery bosses Ineos were in talks at the Acas conciliation service as Socialist Worker went to press.

A 48-hour strike at the refinery, involving just over 100 workers, was set to begin on Sunday of this week.

Ineos is investigating Unite rep Stephen Deans, supposedly over the Falkirk Labour Party selection scandal. Both Labour and the police cleared him of wrongdoing.

The strike would follow more than a week of action short of a strike and could seriously affect fuel supplies.

But action involving the whole Grangemouth workforce of 1,400 employees and 1,000 contractors could pile on much more pressure.
