Over 27,000 London bus drivers are set to strike across the capital’s 18 bus companies on Tuesday of next week.
The drivers voted to strike by an average of 85 percent across the companies last month. The strong vote shows drivers’ mood to fight.
The workers’ Unite union said the employers were “burying their heads in the sand”.
The union is demanding that firms enter into collective bargaining and end disparity in pay, which can be more £3 an hour, and more than 80 different pay rates covering London’s bus drivers.
Activists now need to make sure the strike is as well supported as possible to have the biggest impact.
Strikes are the best way the union can show the bosses it is serious about this fight. To win equal pay bus workers need to use their power with a series of sustained walkouts.
