Five unions representing workers in higher education have rejected a below-inflation pay offer of 0.5 percent.
University workers have already suffered three years of pay cuts in real terms.
The UCU, Unison, Unite, GMB and EIS unions called the latest offer “disappointing”.
They are set to meet university employers again to discuss the dispute on Wednesday of next week.
