London Underground drivers in the RMT transport union on the Victoria Line were to strike from 9pm on Tuesday of this week for 24 hours.
The drivers are in dispute over management’s failure to install equipment that means that the doors cannot open on the wrong side in stations, which is in place on all other lines, and the continuing harassment of RMT members.
The workers voted by 85 percent for action.
They are demanding the reinstatement of sacked train driver Carl Campbell and an end to the victimisation of union activist Glenroy Watson.
Glenroy told Socialist Worker, “Management have brought this dispute on themselves by their behaviour.”
The RMT union is set to reballot 10,000 members across the tube network for strikes over job cuts, pay and bullying. Workers voted overwhelmingly for action but a legal challenge from bosses has meant that the union will now reballot.
