Stop the War groups last week held events to commemorate the 100th British soldier killed in Afghanistan this year. This grim milestone comes as US president Barack Obama and Gordon Brown send more troops to the country.
Stop the War continues to demand that all the troops be brought home immediately.
Some 40 people held a protest outside the army recruitment centre in Dalston, east London demanding an end to the war. They got passers-by to sign a card to be sent to Joe Glenton.
There were also vigils in Saddleworth, Glossop, Bolton and Manchester. In Albert Square, Manchester, shoppers stopped to help write names and create a memorial display to all those who have died.
Military Families Against the War will be handing a letter and petitions in to Gordon Brown on Monday 21 December, demanding that he brings the troops home. The campaign is asking people to assemble at 5pm outside Downing Street, central London.
Afghan president Hamid Karzai and United Nations war chiefs are coming to London on 28 January to talk about their strategy in Afghanistan. The Stop the War Coalition will be organising a protest against the meeting.
