Voting has started in the general secretary election in the PCS civil service workers’ union.
The union’s 310,000 members have a clear choice between left wing incumbent Mark Serwotka and Rob Bryson, a member of the right wing 4themembers group.
Mark stands for a fighting, democratic union that will be prepared to challenge attacks on jobs and the public sector.
Bryson is seeking “partnership” with the government, where the union will have to make “difficult choices to preserve jobs and conditions”, hinting at pay cuts and freezes.
The election ends on 17 December.
Activists have been out speaking to members about the need for a huge vote for Mark Serwotka to help galvanise the union for future battles. The campaign also needs funds.
