The election for general secretary of the Amicus section of the Unite union is set to begin on 16 February. This will give hundreds of thousands of workers the opportunity to vote for their choice to be the union’s leader for the next year.

There are four candidates in the election, current general secretary Derek Simpson, north west regional secretary Kevin Coyne, national secretary for Unite-CMA Paul Reuter and former Rolls Royce worker Jerry Hicks.

Socialist Worker supporters are backing Jerry Hicks as the left wing candidate in the election.

They are also mobilising for the united left group in Unite, which will cover both the Amicus and T&G sections, in Birmingham on 21 February.
