Workers at Ealing hospital have won a victory over pay after strikes.

The workers are domestic, catering, porters and help desk workers employed by Compass Medirest.

Some 150 GMB union members there struck for 11 days.

They were set to walk out on a second week-long strike on Friday of last week when bosses made an offer.

Workers accepted the offer, which includes a 16 percent pay increase in the hourly rate from £6.31 to £7.31 per hour.

They have also won two additional days’ leave and the equalisation of pay rates across the Trust from April next year.

This should deliver an hourly rate of between £9.10 and £9.30 per hour.

Bhimraj Rai is the senior GMB Medirest rep at Ealing Hospital.

He told Socialist Worker, “Everyone is really happy and people are feeling very good about it. We have fought very hard to get this.

“We will never forget the support we received. All the donations and the visits to the picket lines helped us very much.

“We want to say thank you so much to everyone.”
