Thousands plan biggest ever protest against a state visit to Britain
Issue 1873

ANGER IS rising across Britain as more and more people realise that George Bush is due to be here for three days next month. Anti-war campaigners report feeling is such that protests called to coincide with the chief warmonger’s visit on 19, 20 and 21 November could rival previous mobilisations.

Typical was a Stop the War meeting of over 600 students at the London School of Economics last week. This is three times what the organisers expected. There were cheers when speakers called for action to wreck Bush’s visit. Stop the War groups are holding planning meetings to organise protests and are spreading the word through petitioning, badges and posters.

Bush is in deep trouble in Iraq and support is slipping away from him at home. Tony Blair is hoping to do him a favour by inviting him to stay at Buckingham Palace for three days. Bush wants statesmanlike images from the trip beamed back to the US to help launch his re-election campaign.

Everyone across Britain should organise now to make sure that very different pictures are broadcast across the world in five weeks time. For more on how to stop Bush see page 5
