Last week a 250-strong Unison union meeting in Lambeth met to discuss a swathe of local attacks.

It gave “overwhelming support” to the 3 October protest, says Roger Lewis, Unison steward for adult community services.

Islington NUT teachers’ union also agreed to back the protest last week. And Birmingham NUT voted to support the demo.

Branch secretary Doug Morgan told Socialist Worker, “It is clear we need to fight the Tories’ plans to destroy education, destroy local authorities and make ordinary people pay for a crisis that was never of their making.”
