What they don’t tell you about the ‘Burqa bunker’: Mohammed Ahmed Mohamed was rendered and tortured by Britain

When Mohammed Ahmed Mohamed sliced off the electronic tag, donned a burqa and slipped away from a London mosque it created headlines.

The Sun newspaper offered “£25k to Find the Burka Bunker”.

What is less reported is how Mohammed came to be in custody in the first place.

He was rendered from Somalia. Mohammed and a second man, who are both British citizens, were tortured while they were being interrogated.

And it was the British government that supplied the questions.

The second man can be identified only as CF since becoming subject to a Terrorism Prevention and Investigation Measure notice.

They were detained in January 2011 by a group of armed men. 

CF claimed he could hear the leader giving orders in English, with a British accent. 

Over the next few days they faced mock executions and severe beatings. CF said he was kept naked, and was once half-strangled with a piece of cloth. 

They believe the questions were based on information that can only have been supplied by the British authorities. Local media reported that their capture was the result of a joint operation by British and Somali intelligence.

On 13 March they were forced on a flight to Dubai and then London.
