The Defend Whittington Hospital Campaign (DWHC) scored a major victory as NHS bosses were forced to tear up plans to make cuts.

NHS bosses had planned to turn Whittington into a “Health and Social Care hospital” with over 200 fewer beds and services.

They planned to sell off £17 million worth of buildings, sack 570 staff and limit maternity services.

Shirley Franklin chair of DWHC spoke to Socialist Worker. “This is a victory for the campaign but we don’t know what they’re going to do next,” she said.

“We have just heard about new plans to cut A&E, outpatients and community services. We have to keep up the pressure.”
