Council workers in South Gloucestershire took part in a solid and defiant strike last Saturday.
The Unison union members were out against attacks on their pay. Most workers are low paid women and many work part time.
Solidarity was key. The local post worker and agency staff refused to cross the picket line at Vinney Green secure unit.
More than 95 workers joined picket lines across seven sites including libraries and care homes.
Many strikers have worked for the council for over 20 years and had never been on strike before. Yet they backed strikes by 92 percent on a 63 percent turnout in a recent ballot.
The atmosphere among workers is defiant. They know that if they give in to the bosses on this issue, employers will come back for more.
