After more than a month of action, the NUJ work to rule continues at the Daily Record and Sunday Mail in Glasgow.

It appears that management have offered concessions that will mean that jobs are saved, but the NUJ is seeking proper written confirmation of this potential breakthrough.

Earlier this month, NUJ members took seven days of strike action at the papers against 70 redundancies.

A second ballot among workers at the same papers, led to a resounding “yes” for further strike action.

While the first ballot was over redundancies, the new one concerns changes to shift patterns. Management wants to increase unsocial working hours and increase the working week by four hours for many people as part of a merger of the two papers.

On Friday, the NUJ national executive extended its financial support to the chapel in order to support any further strike action which workers decide to take.
