More than half of people aged 17 to 25 are not registered to vote, figures from the Electoral Commission revealed last week.

Young people are not apathetic. They are disenchanted with official politics and the similarity of the main parties.

Hundreds of thousands took part in demonstrations against the war in Iraq, the assault on Gaza, and against the BNP.

In addition, 31 percent of voters from ethnic minorities are not registered.

In all up to 3.5 million people may not be registered.
