Comrades in Fife, Scotland, were saddened to hear that lifelong socialist Colin Cameron died of cancer last week.
Colin joined the International Socialists in the late 1960s and was one of those arrested on a miners’ picket line at Longannet power station in 1972.
In the late 1970s he was instrumental in organising the Anti Nazi League in Bristol. After the victory of Margaret Thatcher in 1979 he dropped out of activity for many years.
Colin turned to culture as a means of retaining a political outlook on life and became involved in Scottish traditional music.
As the left revived in the 1990s, Colin rejoined the Socialist Workers Party and threw himself into a variety of campaigns – not least the Fife Against Genetically Modified Organisms campaign.
Colin understood the importance of propaganda for socialists and produced thousands of leaflets for the anti-war movement, election campaigns and strikers – all from his spare room.
Colin’s support for the working class struggle, his humour and solidarity will all be missed.
