An Israeli government minister has said that one of Israel’s options is to drop a nuclear bomb on Gaza.

Asked in a radio interview on Saturday whether an atomic bomb should be used, heritage minister Amichai Eliyahu said, “This is one of the possibilities.”

Israel has always refused to admit that it has nuclear weapons. But it is widely believed to have between 80 and 400 nuclear warheads that could be launched by aircraft, ships and submarines.

In his interview, Eliyahu, who comes from Itamar Ben Gvir’s far right party, did not even pause to wonder whether Israel had nuclear bombs. He also opposed food or water or medical supplies entering Gaza. He said, “We wouldn’t hand the Nazis humanitarian aid,” and added “There is no such thing as uninvolved civilians in Gaza.”

That’s a call to eliminate everyone, it’s a genocidal message. Asked about the fate of the Palestinian population, he said, “They can go to Ireland or deserts, the monsters in Gaza should find a solution by themselves.”

Anyone waving a Palestinian or Hamas flag “shouldn’t continue living on the face of the Earth,” he went on.

Israel’s prime minister Binyamin Netanyahu said the minister’s words were “not based in reality” and suspended—not sacked—him from his post. That’s not because there is a serious difference at the top of Israel’s government.

Israel forces are every minute exterminating Palestinians and acting as if everyone in Gaza is a target.

Israel has dropped more than 25,000 tons of explosives on Gaza since 7 October, equivalent to two nuclear bombs, Euro-Med Human Rights Monitor said on 2 November.

And Netanyahu wants to drive Palestinians out of Gaza and into the Sinai desert region.

Israel targets refugee camps and hospitals
  • Israel’s military has bombed al-Maghazi refugee camp in central Gaza, killing more than 30 people.
  • Israeli air strikes have destroyed the Al Azhar university in Gaza. Videos circulating online show widespread destruction of the campus.
  • The Al-Qassam Brigades, the military wing of the Hamas movement, announced that the barbaric Zionist bombing of Gaza caused the loss of more than 60 enemy prisoners in Gaza, since 7 October.
  • Dr Ahmed Mokhallalati, head of the plastic surgery department at al-Shifa Hospital in northern Gaza, says that at least 100 people will be killed as a result of the hospital running out of fuel. “The situation has become critical since we are running out of fuel and there is no supply coming in,” he told Al Jazeera. Mokhallalati said that fuel is needed to generate electricity to run the hospital’s blood banks, ventilators, oxygen pumps and other equipment which are critical to treating patients.
  • Israel has killed at least 9,488 Palestinians since 7 October,  according to Palestinian officials.
