Some 2,300 electricity workers in Lebanon have been on strike for the past 79 days. They are demanding permanent contracts from Électricité du Liban (EdL), the state department that manages electricity in the country.
Disabled workers took to picket lines to fight for their jobs today, Thursday. It was the first of two 24-hour strikes by Remploy workers in the Unite and GMB unions.
Once again the Mahalla workers have declared a strike. Let us not forget that their great strikes in December 2006 and September 2007 and their struggles in February and April 2008 were the sparks which ignited the Egyptian revolution.
Around 60 lecturers and their supporters protested at the University of East London today (Wednesday) against management plans to restructure the way they work.
