Description

The Russian invasion of Ukraine has brought home the horrors of imperialist war to millions of people. And, more than a year afterwards, those who opposed both Russia and Nato stand vindicated.

The war in Ukraine is an inter-imperialist conflict between the West—the US, Nato and EU—and Russia which are tearing the country apart.

Imperialism is a global system driven forward by competition between the big capitalist states and backing one imperial camp or the other is not the answer in Ukraine.

The alternative lies with the anti-war movements. In Russia, the hope is that the anti-war movement can grow and cause serious problems for the Putin regime.

In the US and Britain, the hope lies with an anti-war movement that stands in solidarity with the opposition in Russia—and that is able to put the brakes on Nato escalation and expansion. In Ukraine, hope ultimately lies with a vision emerging of a country free from both imperial camps.
