A Dark Cloud Over the Woollen Industry: Wool, war and Wales

This article is over 9 years, 9 months old
Issue 2420

This exhibition looks at the impact of the First World War and its aftermath on the Welsh wool industry.

Wool was one of Wales’s most important industries. When the First World War began orders shot up as the demand for military uniforms skyrocketed. But the depression signalled the death knell for the industry.

The National Wool Museum is located in an old mill and provides a fascinating social history. It’s worth a visit—and not just to see this exhibition.

A Dark Cloud Over the Woollen Industry. National Wool Museum. Until 29 November. Free admission. Dre-Fach Felindre, Llandysul, Carmarthenshire SA44 5UP
