TWO interesting Latin American fact-based dramas are scheduled for radio this weekend. Tango Sensations is a play based on the kidnapping of Victoria Mendez during Argentina’s ‘Dirty War’ in 1976. Mendez was a career diplomat murdered by the regime she loyally served. Years later an Argentinian woman investigates Mendez’s murder.
Tango Sensations is broadcast on Radio 4 at 2.30pm this Saturday, 18 May. Carindiru is the story of Brazil’s most notorious jail, Estacao Carindiru. The worst massacre in prison history occurred there in October 1992. It is based on the book by Dr Drauzio Varella, a Brazilian AIDS doctor. He plays himself, and the play was recorded in Carindiru. It is on this Sunday, 19 May, on Radio 3 at 6.30pm.
