This artistic adventure is a experiment in live installation. The protagonists are a flock of zebra finches, lovely sociable creatures with all sorts of musical skills.

The artist has created a space for birds, people and musical instruments to interact.

Electric guitars and cymbals are placed around the space. When the birds land on a cymbal to have a sip of water, or on a fret board to peck some seeds from between the strings, the most fantastic sound is created.

Watching a pair of birds closely has added delight. Should a little squabble over space break out on one of the instruments, the birds make their own soundtrack more fitting than any composer’s efforts.

Céleste Boursier-Mougenot is on at The Curve, Barbican Centre, London until 23 May. It is free
