Sudan Remember Us
There is a devastating counter-revolutionary war currently unfolding in Sudan and ignored by the mainstream media.
Since April 2023, the Sudanese Armed Forces and the Rapid Support Forces, two rival militias of the ruling class, have been brutally fighting.
New film Sudan, Remember Us begins in the streets of Khartoum, the capital of Sudan, with murals honouring the early martyrs of the revolution.
It offers glimpses into the role of women in the revolution and moves through interviews with revolutionaries and scenes of protests. Finally, it shows the horrific massacre of June 3rd, 2019, when the counter-revolution slaughtered peaceful demonstrators outside military headquarters.
The violence that followed was not the result of “chaos” or “instability”, but a conscious attempt by the ruling class to crush a popular revolution.
What sets this film apart is the vision of award-winning journalist and filmmaker Hind Meddeb. Rather than just recording political events, Meddeb reveals how poetry, music and dance became revolutionary tools and were central to the uprising.
Sudan, Remember Us is a tribute to the courage and hope of ordinary people rising up against a dictatorship, poverty and imperialist-backed repression. But it is also a warning of the lengths the ruling class will go to in order to maintain power.
For socialists and all those fighting for justice, this film is a call for solidarity. Trade unions, student societies and activist networks can organise screenings of the film.
