A Turkish revolutionary flees to Germany looking for her mother.

Another Turk who grew up in Germany and is now a university professor travels to Turkey searching for a missing woman.

The film’s German title, On The Other Side, better captures its complex exploration of barriers and borders.

It looks at relations between Turkey and Germany through six characters of different ages and backgrounds – four women and two men, four Turks and two Germans.

This surpasses the film Head On, which brought director Fatih Akin to international attention.
