As free primary education was reintroduced across Kenya in east Africa in 2003, an aging veteran of the country’s Mau Mau independence war against the British turned up at school.

Based on a true story, this drama tells the tale of Maruge (Oliver Litondo), a veteran in his eighties, who is desperate to learn to read.

He fought for liberation and now feels he must have the chance of an education so long denied—even if it means sitting in a classroom alongside six-year olds.

Special showing for Mau Mau Justice Network, followed by panel discussion: Thursday 23 June 2011, 6pm, Room V211, Soas Vernon Square Campus, Penton Rise, Kings Cross, London WC1X 9EW
