Despite being funded as one of Boris Johnson’s corporate schemes, artist Jason de Caires Taylor’s latest work The Rising Tide packs a punch.

It depicts four ghostly Horsemen of the Apocalypse with oil?rig heads, on the banks of the Thames near Vauxhall, London.

They highlight the damaging impact of fossil fuels on the environment—and are submerged each day at high tide.

A Syrian Love Story – don’t miss it

This award-winning documentary film, shot over five years, is finally being shown across Britain and Socialist Worker readers would do well to catch it.

Amer and Ragda met in one of the Assad regimes’ prisons. They were both locked up for speaking out against the regime.

But the action here  begins 15 years later during the Syrian Revolution. They now live together and have children—but Ragda has been imprisoned again. 

McAllister follows their family through the revolt. Ragda is released—but all is not well. The regime briefly arrests McAllister, and soon they are all forced to flee to Lebanon as refugees from the growing civil war. 

This intimate family portrait helps us to understand why people are dying for change.
