This TV documentary from 1978 shows how the Lucas Aerospace shop stewards’ committee attempted to challenge management layoffs with its own Corporate Plan.
The trade unionists demanded that they should produce equipment such as kidney machines and non-polluting vehicles instead of weapons.
The film shows “the sad evasiveness of the official Labour leaders, trade union officials and government ministers, patting the Combine Committee members on the head but doing nothing to address either specific issues behind the Corporate Plan or the broader issue of industrial democracy”.
