Workers can stop the Tory pensions robbery in its tracks

The government stuck two fingers up at public sector workers when it announced savage cuts to their pensions last week.

The Tories want to snatch more than £1 billion from their pensions in just one year.

They have paid no attention to “negotiations” with unions and are charging ahead with the assault.

Union leaders reacted angrily. But it’s not enough to be angry.

We need an organised campaign of strikes to stop the government—and every trade unionist can campaign for this now in their workplace.

Workers in four unions—the NUT, PCS, UCU and ATL—struck together to defend their pensions on 30 June. Some council workers in Unison and Unite joined them.

This showed the enormous potential for a united fightback.

The unions should take the initiative away from the Tories. Hesitation only encourages them to make bolder attacks.

The pensions battle is a key dispute for the working class.

It can unite millions of people in resistance to the Tories and encourage others to fight back.

The government is weak—and worried at the prospect of widespread resistance.

Together, we can force them back.
