THE NEW organisation launched to stop the British National Party, Unite Against Fascism, is gaining wide support.

ROYAL MAIL, a company that boasts of its equality and anti-racist polices, has appointed a leading British National Party member to a management position at Northampton's main sorting office.

THE BNP has 16 councillors. It wants to achieve a breakthrough in next June's elections when MEPs, London Assembly members and councillors will be elected on the same day across Britain.

THE BRITISH National Party has again been beaten back in its attempts to get more councillors elected. The first council by-election was in Oldham, where BNP leader Nick Griffin has long hoped to achieve a breakthrough. But ordinary people in Failsworth East rejected the BNP's lies.

Sheffield SOME 110 people came to a Sheffield Coalition Against Racism meeting at Sheffield town hall on Friday of last week. Since the local elections in May, when the Nazi BNP polled 18 percent in Brightside and 11 percent in Handsworth, there has been a desire to see united opposition to the Nazis in Sheffield.

THE NAZI BNP suffered two setbacks in by-elections on Thursday of last week. They failed to hold a council seat in Burnley or to capture a seat in the Mixenden ward, Calderdale, where they already hold one of the two council seats. In the Great Horton ward, Bradford, they were disqualified due to irregularities in their nomination papers.

ANOTHER MONTH, another resignation from the British National Party. Blackburn councillor Robin Evans has quit the BNP.

THE NAZI BNP failed to make an electoral breakthrough in a region it had put at the top of its target list last week.

TRADE UNIONS in the north east of England are at the forefront of local campaigns against the Nazi British National Party (BNP). This was shown at the TUC Northern Region's anti-racism training day held in Sunderland last Saturday.

MERSEYSIDE TUC organised a conference last Saturday to build a campaign against racism and fascism. Some 50 people attended the Merseyside Against Racism and Fascism foundation conference, including representatives of the PCS, Unison, Amicus and TGWU unions. Delegates agreed to launch the Merseyside Coalition Against Racism and Fascism to fight against the Nazi BNP in the area.

AN IMPASSIONED debate on fighting racism and fascism at the TUC revealed a mounting determination among trade unionists to halt the rise of the Nazi British National Party (BNP). There was universal anger that New Labour's anti-union laws allowed BNP members to sue unions that expel them from membership. Vicky Knight from the Fire Brigades Union said, "The Labour Party pandering to the right wing undermines at every stage our campaign against racism. "Their approach to asylum seekers will fuel the fascists."

THE RESULT gave added urgency to debates at this week's TUC on building a mass campaign to beat back the Nazi BNP. The result in Grays is especially worrying, as the town is little different to dozens across the country.
