THE WHEELS have come off Tony Blair's bandwagon. Millions of people have rumbled his lies over the war. A television mock trial, which presented the anti-war case badly, still found Blair guilty of mass deception by a margin of two to one. The aftermath of the war and New Labour's ongoing attacks are producing immense political debate and questioning across Britain. It finds only the faintest echo in the cosseted world of official politics.

LOW PAID workers at the Royal Bolton hospital are the latest group of NHS staff to strike against private NHS contractors. The 150 workers are employed by ISS Mediclean, one of the largest private cleaning firms in Britain. The ISS group raked in £200 million profit last year. Domestics (cleaning staff) get £4.47 an hour, with porters getting £4.61. They are demanding £5 and £5.60 respectively.

"THE TEXTILE workers are like the coal miners in Britain, to make a comparison. They are a very old section of the working class and have a long history going back to the mid-19th century. They have been involved in many struggles and formed the backbone of the city for many years.

Radiohead's new album has caused a stir in the music press. Radiohead are immensely popular. Hail To The Thief sold over 60,000 copies in Britain in the first two days of its release. They are also highly political. Lead singer Thom Yorke denounced the war on Iraq. The band support campaigns against Third World debt and in defence of asylum seekers.

ANTI-NAZI campaigners are building local support for demonstrations on Saturday 28 June against the Nazi British National Party (BNP) councillors in their area. The marches in Burnley, Dudley, Broxbourne and Halifax are mobilising a range of people opposed to the BNP. In Burnley the BNP has eight councillors, and was standing a candidate in the by-election on Thursday of this week.

THE NATIONAL conference of Britain's biggest union got under way on Tuesday as Socialist Worker went to press. Delegates representing 1.3 million members of the Unison public sector workers' union faced a series of key debates.

"IT'S ABOUT time the low paid stood up and gave the politicians and the fat cats a good shaking," says Annie, a striking nursery nurse from Edinburgh. She is one of thousands of workers across Britain who are fighting to end poverty pay and stop bosses treating them like second class citizens.

MILLIONS OF words have been written about the euro this week. But there is one currency question that neither Tony Blair nor Gordon Brown will confront - the scandalous poverty wages that millions of workers in Britain are forced to exist on.

CAMPAIGNERS against the British National Party (BNP) are building support for marches on 28 June in the areas where 16 BNP councillors have been elected. Those who have signed the statement urging people to join these unity Demonstrations include trade union leaders, Labour Party MPs and MEPs, Manchester United football club and the band Heartless Crew.

THE LIES told by Tony Blair to justify war on Iraq are coming back to haunt him. This week the conference of Britain's fourth biggest union, the GMB, called for a public inquiry into events leading up to the war. If Blair was found to have lied, said the motion, he should resign. The conference also supported the Stop the War Coalition and voted to review its links with Labour MPs.

UP TO 200 people protested outside Downing Street on Thursday of last week against Israel's targeting of international activists in Palestine. "We want an inquiry into the deaths of the internationals targeted by Israel," the Palestinian film-maker Leila Sansour told Socialist Worker. "The British government has shown incredible lameness in tackling the situation."

THE LABOUR Party's top committee has sparked outrage by refusing to lift the suspension of anti-war MP George Galloway and even closing down discussion on the issue. The undemocratic scenes at Labour's National Executive Committee (NEC) on Tuesday of this week underline widespread suspicions that Labour's hierarchy will use every dirty trick against the most prominent anti-war figure in Britain.
