Thousands of CWU union reps meet to discuss national strike action

Workers at Oxford East Delivery Office have voted by over 75 percent to strike after two post workers were sacked. Bosses claimed they “wilfully delayed mail”.

The CWU union has announced the date when it will begin a ballot for a national postal strike over privatisation. The ballot of all Royal Mail and Parcelforce workers will begin on 20 September, with the result announced on 3 October. If members vote yes, a strike could take place from 10 October.

Some 4,000 Crown Post Office (CPO) workers struck for two days over the bank holiday weekend last week against office closures, job cuts and pay freezes.

Post workers struck for one day at Coventry North delivery office on Tuesday of this week. 

A mass meeting of postal workers and union officials was set to be held outside the Weston-Super-Mare mail centre on Thursday 29 August.

Some 240 post workers struck at delivery offices in Bridgwater and Weston-Super-Mare in Somerset on Saturday of last week.

Some 4,000 workers in 373 Crown Post Offices (CPOs) are set to strike across the country for two days over the bank holiday weekend.

Workers at Portsmouth processing centre are voting in a consultative ballot over plans to close it with the loss of 380 jobs.

Some 110 post workers in Bridgwater delivery office, Somerset, have struck for two more days in their continuing dispute. This takes the total to seven.

Around 3,500 Parcelforce workers have voted overwhelmingly to reject the privatisation of Royal Mail in a consultative ballot.
